Today's Tree Talk is not about a tree, but rather a tree parasite! American mistletoe (Phoradendron leucarpum) can be found in the canopies of over 60 species of deciduous tree in the southern and coastal regions of the US. Despite being a plant with a large cultural impact (do you know anyone who has not heard of mistletoe?), most people haven't ever seen it up close, partly because the hemiparasite is usually hard to reach up in tree canopies.

Forests for the Bay was been funded by the US Forest Service for many years, which allowed us to educate countless people on trees and their myriad benefits. Tree Talk is an extemporaneous lesson by Ryan Davis, recorded opportunistically by his wife Allyson while out and about in the landscapes they love. He sometimes gets things wrong because he's just speaking from memory, but always verifies and corrects things in the pop-ups to the best of his ability.
