Dr Aiden Ricketts teaches in the Faculty of Law at the Lismore campus. As a legal academic, Aiden specialises in social movements and environmental activism. He has published on protests, activism, police and protestors' liaison and anti-protest laws. Aiden is the author of ‘The Activists Handbook: a step by step guide to Participatory Democracy (2012), which is a resource on grassroots activism.
Aiden played a significant leadership role at the Bentley Blockade in 2014. Thousands of people were mobilised to camp at Bentley near Lismore, in peaceful protest against Coal seam gas exploration by the resource company Metagasco. After months of peaceful civil disobedience and under threat of a police force raid to arrest thousands of peaceful protestors, the government withdrew coal seam gas licenses. A major win for the environment, proving the people's power in nonviolent protest.
Aiden has two Master's degrees: both Master of Laws as well as a Master's in Education. In 2022, Aiden was awarded his PhD from the University of New England. Please give Aiden a big warm welcome to deliver his Keynote speech for Praxis 2025. #PRAXIS2025 #yourscpa
