Our visit to the historic city of Bayeux in the Normandy Region of France

Описание: Hi and welcome! In this video, we embark on a journey to the enchanting city of Bayeux, nestled in the heart of Normandy, France.

Bayeux is a city that effortlessly blends history and beauty. Its magnificent Cathedral, the world-renowned Bayeux Tapestry, and its proximity to the Normandy landing beaches make it a compelling destination for any traveller.

Our stay at the highly recommended Hôtel d'Argouges (link provided below) offered the perfect blend of comfort and convenience, with ample parking and an easy 10-minute walk to the Cathedral. For those travelling without a car, Caen International Airport is just an hour away by train, and Paris is a convenient 3-hour train journey.

In this video, we'll take you through the charming streets of Bayeux, a compact city where most of the main attractions are within a 15-20 minute walk from the Cathedral. You'll see the stunning Bayeux Cathedral (Cathedral of Our Lady of Bayeux), a masterpiece of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, with a rich history dating back to Roman times. We'll explore its beautiful interior, including the crypt and the impressive 18th-century Baroque pulpit.

We'll also guide you to the museum that houses the Bayeux Tapestry, a remarkable piece of history that vividly depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of 1066. While we can't show you the tapestry itself (photography and video are not allowed), we'll provide a link to a virtual tour (see below). It is important to note that the Bayeux Tapestry Museum closes on September 1, 2025, and the Tapestry will not be on display until October 2027.

Bayeux holds a significant place in World War II history as the first city to be liberated on June 7, 1944. We'll visit the Bayeux Commonwealth War Cemetery, the largest British Commonwealth war cemetery in France, and the Bayeux Memorial, which commemorates the soldiers who died in the early stages of the campaign and have no known grave. We also highlight the free Memory Anchor app, an Augmented Reality tool for exploring the cemetery.

Bayeux is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area, including the Normandy landing beaches. We also visited the British Normandy Memorial (see link below). And, we'll end our day with a taste of local life and a truly special experience: the mesmerizing light show at Bayeux Cathedral.
