3 TIPS I USED FOR my PR 5:24 2000m row!
1 - Remember that this is a LONG ROW no matter how fast or “slow” you are. This row is going to take 5 and a half minutes MINIMUM… for most, 7-9 minutes. Think about when you start the row really hard and fast… can you keep that for 7-9 minutes? OF COURSE YOU CAN’T SO DON’T DO THAT!
2 - Row long. You need as much LENGTH in each stroke as possible to keep you efficient for 7-9 minutes. Focus on the lean forward, bending your legs as much as you can. YES, YOUR HEELS CAN LIFT AND PROBABLY SHOULD! Heels planted is ideal for short intervals or if you have a large midsection that would prevent you from keeping your lean forward if you bent your legs more.
3 - Start off more conservative than you think you should. You can ALWAYS BRING MORE AT THE END but you CANNOT get back burning out the start! So don’t f*** yourself over by going crazy at the start because your adrenaline is high!
The first 500m should feel SUSPICIOUSLY EASY… Re-assess your pacing at the 1000m mark and THEN BRING MORE if you conserved too much. Most likely, you’ll have gone just hard enough to keep your pushing the same intensity for the rest of the row.
If you are immature and go really hard at the start, you’re gonna be f***ed for that final 500 meters - and that’s your own doing! I’M WARNING YOU NOW!!
BONUS TIP: THIS ROW IS GONNA BE HARD!! It’s going to be hard no matter what!! The sooner you accept that, the better mindset you’ll be able to cultivate to get after it and crush this row!!
