The famous Sarasatia sweet of Sambalpur, Odisha is likely to receive a Geographical Indication (GI) Tag soon. This rare traditional sweet has been prepared for more than 150 years by the family of Minchu Kaka (Prabhulal Gupta) at Kunjelpara Chowk in Sambalpur.

After efforts by Sambalpur MP and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the district administration collected important documents from the Sarasatia makers and submitted them to the Government of India.

The Sarasatia sweet has become a symbol of Sambalpur’s cultural and culinary heritage, and locals are celebrating the possibility of this prestigious recognition.
