Another 60 second summary, this time of Hancock et al's (2011) study of psychopathy and language. Can we analyse the speech of murderers to find a link to psychopathic traits that they have, and to flip it round, can we "diagnose" psychopathy using language alone?
Further reading: the PCL-R test used to diagnose psychopathic traits in this study is available fairly easily online. Jon Ronson has an interesting Ted talk about psychopaths elsewhere on YouTube, and obviously there's a whole bunch of material about psychopaths in general knocking about.
For this study, IMO the key info is having some data/stats about the linguistic differences between psychopaths and non-psychopaths. This study pairs up with Gould's research - the IQ testing in that study did a terrible job of measuring individual differences, whereas Hancock et al did a good job! Use that as your starting point for revising both studies.
This is the first video I've made as a direct response to a request! Thanks for the motivation via comments on my last video - I am hoping to get the final few uploaded in the next week or so.
