On April 3rd, the Palm Beach County Zoning Commission voted 5-3 to recommend approval for Big Sugar’s controversial rock mine proposed in the Everglades Agricultural Area.
Despite confusion, major legal and environmental concerns, and a lack of confirmation from the Water Management District, the project that's being marketed as a "water resources project" still slid through.
That wasn't the last stop, though. The mine proposal now heads to the full Palm Beach County Commission on April 24th, but what happened at this zoning commission is hard to believe unless you see it.
Commissioners questioned why they were even the first stop for a project this big. The debate got heated, the facts got fuzzy, and even board members seemed unsure of what they were voting on.
