Описание: Dissertation/ thesis writing is a crucial part of your academic journey. It's a one-shot operation and you may not do it again in your life. So, it is challenging to figure out the processes of developing a great thesis/ dissertation. In this video, I focus on the tiny section that is the introduction of your thesis/ dissertation and unpack the strategy for producing an excellent one. It is one of the most dreaded sections but it can actually be used strategically to write a great thesis/ dissertation/ research article overall.

FEAR THE INTRODUCTION SECTION NO MORE! Find out in 8 minutes:
💡 Why you must write the introduction first (NOT LAST)
💡 Why picking a research topic is not as alien as we think (start from somewhere familiar)
💡 Why re-visiting the introduction several times is key
💡 How to link your research to existing theory: demonstrate and articulate your contribution
💡 How to keep your readers engaged: how to structure your introduction
💡 How to gain legitimacy with your readers: what literature to cite in the introduction
💡 How to use later sections to refine your introduction
💡 Several other videos to help you lock down the introduction for good! Essay after essay, dissertation after dissertation.

If you want excellent results with your thesis/ dissertation or research article, WRITE THE INTRODUCTION FIRST. It seems counter-intuitive and I used to be one of the people saying that it is a no-brainer that you should write it last. However, as I write more and collaborate more, I not only understand the importance of writing the introduction first, but I also understand that it is an under-utilised strategic tool for developing excellent work.

In this video, I explain why writing the introduction first, last, and revising it several times in-between throughout the lifetime of the manuscript is efficient and yields the best possible results. You will never write the introduction last once you try this.

The introduction section of a thesis/ dissertation or research article is the most important section. It determines if people will stay engaged and continue reading your article. If it is a dissertation/ thesis, it is the first impression that determines how the marker will see your work going forward. While many dread the introduction (and I used to be one of those people), it actually has a straightforward structure that is easy to replicate. It allows readers to find what they are looking for quickly and addresses all the key questions they may have before reading the rest of your thesis/ dissertation or manuscript.

Crafting a good introduction, though, is quite an involved process. The good news is that you can use it strategically to work efficiently and get brilliant results. The first several drafts of the introduction are for yourself - to figure out what you are trying to do and to understand the problem better as your process evolves. The final draft, which we usually say must be written last, is the draft that you write for your readers. You tell them exactly what the problem is and why they should care about it (them, not you). Then you walk them, very concisely, through the gap that informed your research question, the research question and methods you adopt, the research logic, and the contributions you make. That's it.
