Quick dev log update for The Debt of Souls Mk.4.4
In this video I’m showing the system I’ve been building to transition from exploration into an FF7-style ATB combat encounter. The focus is the Encounter Trigger Box in the exploration level and how it hands off encounter data through the GameInstance, then loads the Combat Level where my BP_ATBManager takes over.
What’s covered:
The BP_EncounterTrigger setup (instance-editable encounters, 1–3 enemies)
Building the encounter array and storing it in GameInstance
Loading into the combat level and gathering Enemy Spawn Points
Building a Runtime Enemy Array from a DataTable (design data → runtime data)
Spawning enemies into the correct slots and storing actor refs back into the runtime array.
Clean, scalable structure that will support UI portraits, ATB timers, damage/death, and returning to exploration
Next up will be syncing this runtime data into my existing ATB/UI framework, combat camera intro, and full victory/defeat flow.
