Miata Big Brake Kit from Wilwood

Today, we're continuing our prep for the NB-1 Mazda Miata as we get it ready for the race track. One of the key upgrades we’re making is installing a set of Wilwood brakes to ensure we can bring this car to a safe and efficient stop.

Wilwood Brake Kit Installation
For this installation, we’re using the Wilwood kit #140-14316, which is compatible with the 1990 to 2005 Miata models, including the NA, NB-1, and NB-2.

Tools You'll Need:
Jack and jack stands
Lug wrench
Socket and wrench set
Torque wrench
Brake cleaner
Brake fluid
Basic hand tools
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Preparation: Start by parking the car on a level surface. Make sure you have all your tools and the brake kit ready.

Lift the Car: Use a jack to raise the car and securely place it on jack stands.

Remove the Wheels: Take off the wheels to gain access to the brake components.

Disconnect Old Brakes:

Remove the caliper by unbolting it from the bracket. Be careful not to damage the brake line; you can hang the caliper with a bungee cord or zip tie.
Take off the old brake pads and rotor.
Install Wilwood Brakes:

Clean the hub surface with brake cleaner to ensure proper installation.
Place the new Wilwood rotor onto the hub.
Attach the new caliper using the provided hardware, ensuring it’s aligned properly with the rotor.
Install Brake Pads: Insert the new brake pads into the caliper.

Reconnect Brake Lines: Reattach the brake line to the new caliper, ensuring a tight and secure fit.

Repeat for All Corners: Follow the same steps for the other axle, ensuring both front and rear brakes are upgraded.

Bleed the Brakes: Once all components are installed, bleed the brake lines to remove any air. This is crucial for proper brake function.

Final Checks: Double-check all bolts and connections.

Wheel Installation: Put the wheels back on and lower the car to the ground.

Test Drive: Before hitting the track, take the car for a short test drive to ensure everything is functioning correctly.
