I can't believe she does that!! 🫨 Side reins: a useful tool when used CORRECTLY

Side reins, when used properly, can be a great training aid that can help take normal human shortcomings (namely poor timing) out of the equation. They are NOT used to trap, force, or otherwise intimidate a horse into moving a certain way... instead, they are used to help teach a certain behavior in response to a specific stimulus (the jaw following the pressure against the bars of the mouth, lips, and nose back.

Wearing a bit increases the degree of difficulty in performing a task for a horse. Its considered a more advanced step in their training. Like it or not, the majority of people WILL be riding with a bit. The unfortunate follow-up to that truth is that the majority of people will also ride poorly in that bit- or make poor bit selections. It behooves me to make my horses comfortably underatand as much as I can, during the realitvely short time i have them, about yielding to that pressure so #horse that i can insure they have as much chance (as I can provide) at a happy, successful, future.
