Rise of Indian Defence Exports 🇮🇳🇮🇳

To begin with, in 2014, India exported 686 Crore Rs worth of defence equipment.

And this number has increased to 23,622 Crore Rs in 2024. That’s a growth of 34 times in one decade.

And it’s not just the amount that has increased, it’s also the quality of defence equipment.

In 2014, most of what we exported were basic defence components, things like bulletproof jackets, rifles and ammunition, light-weight helicopters like Chetak and other spare parts. Also, we exported mostly to friendly nations like Nepal, Afghanistan and the Maldives.

Now in 2025, India exports advanced defence equipment like Brahmos and Akash missile systems, Pinaka rocket launchers, Dornier aircraft and Fast Interceptor Boats. Also, we now export to almost 100 countries, with the US and France as the top buyers.

This is a crazy transformation in just a span of one decade, and one of the best outcomes of the Make in India scheme.

In fact, India has moved from 65% defence imports to 65% self-reliance during this period.
