The Mosul Cultural Museum in Iraq was built in the early 1970’s by esteemed architect Mohamed Makiya. The site’s iconic architecture, along with the valuable historic artifacts that it houses, are the focus of ongoing restoration work aimed at reviving the museum following the brutal attack by ISIS in 2015.
The Mosul Cultural Museum Revitalization Project is an initiative led by the Iraqi State Board of Antiques and Heritage (SBAH), the Musée du Louvre, the Smithsonian Institution, ALIPH Foundation, and World Monuments Fund (WMF). The institutions are currently working together to safeguard its invaluable heritage and enhance its offerings as a public space.
