Behind the small rural village of Soo, far from the most touristic routes, a series of small volcanoes with special colors rises from the landscape.In this Walking Tour we move from the lower slopes up to the summit of Caldera Trasera, the highest volcanic formation in the surroundings of Soo: discreet yet surprising, it holds one of the widest and most unexpected panoramas in this area of Lanzarote.
The walk begins on soft sand and gravel ground, with very little vegetation, until the crater comes into view. We could down and explore the caldera, but we choose to continue towards the summit, climbing along a path that becomes increasingly steep and rocky.The weather is highly variable: blue skies and grey clouds alternate quickly, a rainbow appears behind us, and a few drops of rain are felt. None can stops us, we are about to enjoy a breathtaking view.
At the top, the landscape opens up in a full 360° view: the northern ocean, small coastal villages, volcanoes stretching all the way to Timanfaya, the distant beach of Famara, and the island of La Graciosa on the horizon, partially hidden by low clouds on a day of strong contrasts.
Caldera Trasera is a little-known, silent and peaceful place. Sitting on the bare volcanic rock at the summit invites slow breathing and a respectful contemplation of Lanzarote’s wild landscape.
