Описание: ☕ While Lucas was trying to kindle the fire and Laurie was lighting candles, I decided to ask a question that had been haunting me since the moment I arrived in this small town. "And what is this tree?" - I asked my friends and pointed to an old, withered and slightly leaning oak. Lucas pushed the log aside, put down the matches, and looked at his wife. "In our village, people like to invent different stories ...", - Lucas began to answer, but his wife Laurie immediately interrupted him. "It's not fiction, it's true!", - she said in an indignant voice and added - "... and this is not a tree at all!". Lucas shrugged, - "Well...there is a legend". I looked at them questioningly. "This is Elizabeth," - Laurie answered my silent question. I opened my eyes wide in even more surprise. "Are we talking about this dry tree now?", - I asked. There was a slight pause before Lucas continued. "... As you know, many sailors live in our village and once upon a time there lived one couple - Charles and Elizabeth. Charles was a sailor and one day his ship did not return home with him. Elizabeth was informed that the ship sank and Charles died. The remains of the ship were never found, so the girl did not believe in the death of Charles, and every evening she went out to this hill in anticipation of her lover...She sat next to a tree and looked at the sun, which was setting just behind that mountain," - Lucas pointed into the distance and continued, - "But one night, Elizabeth did not return. And in this morning the locals noticed that the green tree, next to which the missing girl was sitting, suddenly crumbled ... Every month it became more and more noticeable how the tree leans ... and not just leans, it seemed that it was stretching towards the sun ... ", - Lucas stopped for a minute to drink hot cocoa, - "And Elizabeth ... she disappeared", - he added. "And since then, people have been saying that her soul is stored in this tree ... Now it's not just a tree, it's Elizabeth", - Lucas finished his story and thought about something. "And by the way, the tree is not dry!", - Laurie added. All evening I enjoyed a wonderful sunset in the company of friends, but this beautiful mystical legend did not get out of my head. Or maybe just the sunset created that same magical mood. I don’t know what ultimately influenced me so much, but this small town and the legend of Elizabeth stuck in my memory for many years.
