Imagine looking up at the sky during heavy rain and seeing fish falling from the clouds. It may sound like a movie scene, but this strange natural phenomenon actually happens in the country of Honduras.
In the region of Yoro, a mysterious event known as “Lluvia de Peces” (Rain of Fish) has been reported for nearly 100 years. Every year between May and July, after intense storms and heavy rainfall, the ground is found covered with small fish.
The most surprising part is that some of the fish are still alive and moving when people discover them the next morning. Instead of fear, locals celebrate the event and collect the fish to cook and eat, turning the phenomenon into a unique local tradition.
Scientists believe strong windstorms called Waterspout may lift small fish from rivers or water bodies into the sky and drop them during heavy rain. However, this explanation still raises questions because some of the fish found are freshwater species, while the sea is about 200 kilometers away.
Because of these mysteries, the Rain of Fish remains one of the most fascinating and unexplained natural phenomena in the world.
