Whistler Big Mountain Snowboarding - Sunset Ride on the T.Finder w/ SnowboardProCamp

Описание: The weather has been very Whistler-ish... Overcast, windy, snow (or rain) and constantly changing. One thing we have been kinda short on this year is the holy grail of snowboard conditions: the blue bird powder day.

Last couple days had been as described and I passed up an opportunity to ride Spanky's due to poor visibility. So when I woke up (still dark being the day after winter solstice) to see the stars the start of an amazing day, followed not long after by the helicopters shuttling people up into the backcountry.

I had a couple mellow laps to warm up and met up with Kevin ‪@SnowboardProCamp‬ to discuss our plans for the afternoon. We had already discussed doing a hike so headed up Glacier Chair to see what the hike up into Blackcomb Glacier was looking like. The hike up into the glacier is quite hard if you are not used to hiking at altitude (not that we are actually that high). We decided to hike up over the back and drop down into 7th Heaven on an area that Kevin and I know fairly well.

Riding the Korua Shapes Tranny Finder for the second day and loving it. Great in the morning, but a little sticky on this wind affected snow, Kevin was saying similar from the freshly waxed Jones Ultra Mind Expander, so we put it down to conditions.

The area is still exposed with rocks and obstacles, so we are very much riding conservatively and just trying to take it easy down the hill. It is still early season and I have previously cut seasons short with major injuries, so dialing back the speed, tricks and line choices.

We end up in a catchment area at the end that we often get to from the 7th Heaven Chair and even though there is a little bit of traversing out and then the ride down the mountain, at this point the most technical part is over and we just took it nice and easy back to the cars.

Big thanks to Kevin for coming along and spurring the mission, it was absolutely amazing and getting us the urge to break the splitboards out as soon as possible.
