Fences Under Regulations:

1.Every tank or reservoir or other dangerous places in or about a mine
2. Examinations oof fencing in every 7 days.
3. Any fence, gate, or barricade may be temporarily removed for the purpose of repairs or other operations if adequate precautions are taken.
4. If any doubt arises as to whether any fence, guard, barrier, or gate provided under these regulations is adequate, proper, or secure, or as to whether the precautions taken under sub-regulation (3) are adequate, it shall be referred to the Chief Inspector for decision.

According to The Mines Act 1952

Section 40

No person below 18 years of age is allowed to work in a mine or part thereof.
For apprenticeship no person below the age of 16 is allowed.

Section 45:

Prohibition of the presence of persons below 18 years of age in a mine above ground where any operation connected with or incidental to any mining operation is being carried on.

Types Of Fences

S1: 0.40-meter thick brick wall in lime mortar, not less than 1.20 meters high with a barbed wire fence not less than 0.60 meters high (with wires not more than 0.25 meters apart) on top.

S2:
0.40-meter thick brick wall in lime mortar not less than 1.50 meters high, with a parapet top
or
0.75-meter thick stone wall in lime mortar, not less than 1.50 meters high.

S3:
Wire ropes, wire rope strands or barbed wire supported by movable post-stands (wooden, iron or concrete), the gap between adjacent members being not less than 0.30 meters and the bottom-most member, not more than 0.25 meters and the top-most member not less than 1.00 meters from ground level.

G1:
Rigid steel fencing, vertical members being not more than 3.00 meters apart, and the gap between adjacent horizontal members not more than 0.25 meters, the bottom-most member is not more than 0.15 meters and the top-most member is not less than 1.00 meters from ground level.

G2:
Barbed wire fencing, with specifications similar to G1 except that the horizontal member should consist of barbed wire.

G3:
Wire ropes with pillars, vertical members being not more than 3.0 meters apart, and the gap between adjacent horizontal members not more than 0.25 meters, the bottom-most member is not more than 0.15 meters and the top-most member not less than one meter from ground level.

G4:
Rigid wooden fencing, vertical members being not more than 1.50 meters apart; and the gap between adjacent horizontal members not more than 0.25 meters, the bottommost member is not more than 0.15 meters and the topmost member not less than one meter from ground level. The vertical members should not be less than 5 cm in diameter.

G5:
Metallic guards of sheet metal or of wire mesh or of expanded metal.

U1:
Wire ropes, wire rope strands or barbed wire or wooden rolls nailed or fitted on vertical props set flush on the sides of the gallery and also in the middle of the gallery if necessary; the gap between the adjacent members being not more than 0.30 meter, and the bottom-most member should not be more than 0.25 meter and the top-most member not less than one meter from ground level.

U2:
Two wire ropes, wire rope strands, barbed wire, or wooden rolls fixed (preferably with cement or lime mortar) in the sides of the pillars across the gallery, at a height of about 0.60 and 1.0 meters respectively.

Uses of Various Fences:
1. Storage tanks for water to be used in connected with mining :S1
2. Top of abandoned shafts or inclines : S2
3. Top of working inclines : S3
4. Top of storage bunkers for sand etc. :S1, S2 and G2
5. (a) Top of abandoned quarries and S1 or S2 subsided areas and tramlines if lying with 100 ft. of residential building etc.
(b) Top of other abandoned quarries. : S2 or G1 for near and G3 & G4 for more than 5 m distance.
6. Subsided surface. Surface likely to subside; surface above underground fire etc. : Thorny Bushses
7. Top of working quarry: (a) moving fronts (b) others : S3 and G2.
8. Tops of underground staple pits, sumps and insets and mid-landing in shaft : S2 and G1.
9. Open tops of drifts : S2, G1 and G4
10.Top of working shaft : G1
11. Moving & dangerous parts of Machinery : G1 & G5.
12. Tramline bridges and gantries : G2
13. Moving shafts, couplings and gears of machinery : G1 & G5.
14. Entrance to the site of an accident or to a place where inflammable or noxious gas has been found (or where there is some other danger) and the danger has not yet been removed : U1.
15. Entrance to goaves : U1.
16.Disused galleries : U2.


Fences Used at Different Places Under MMR/CMR

Any place which is found dangerous by MNMT, Foreman, Sirdar or Overman during delivering his duties.
Misfired shot hole area by Blaster or shot firer..
