Bhuta Kola Kunita Daiva
In this episode, Nesara Traveller takes you deep into the heart of Tulu Nadu to witness the powerful ritual of Daivaradhane. Specifically, we are capturing the spiritual energy of the Varthe & Kalkuda Kola in Kodavoor.
🔱 What is Daivaradhane?
Daivaradhane is more than just a ritual; it is a time-honored Dravidian tradition of worshipping guardian spirits and ancestors. Practiced for centuries across coastal Karnataka, it remains a pillar of the region's identity.
In Tulu Nadu, it is believed there are over 1,000+ Daivas. While some are celebrated across the entire region, others are guardians of specific families or villages. These spirits don’t just offer spiritual guidance—historically, they played a vital role in the administration and justice system of the land.
📜 Preserving an Ancient Heritage
Originally, these practices were passed down through oral traditions and lived experiences rather than written scripts. Over time, some of the original meanings behind these rituals have been diluted.
As travelers and seekers, it is our responsibility to understand the "why" behind the worship. By learning the stories and the history of our ancestors, we can ensure that these sacred traditions continue with the same authenticity and power as they did generations ago.
