Footage of the ceremony at which the tiny Spanish possession of Equatorial Guinea along with the mainland province of Rio Muni and 3 tiny islands in the Gulf of Guinea became independent of Spain.
Spain had ruled Equatorial Guinea for 190 years. The islands included Fernando Po (now Bioko) which Spain acquired from Portugal in 1773.
President Francisco Marcias (later Marcias Nguema) received the instruments of power from Senor Manuel Fraga Iribarne, the Spanish Minister for Information & Tourism, who represented the Caudillio General Francisco Franco.
