A massive suspension bridge has been unveiled in Turkey that will leave you exclaiming. This record-breaking achievement is thanks to President Erdogan, who inaugurated the 1915 Canakkale Bridge, built across Turkey's Dardanelles Strait.

Before the bridge was constructed, vehicles traveling between Anatolia and Gallipoli peninsula had to cross Dardanelles in a one-hour ferry journey. With all the waiting and time required to hop on and off the ferry, this would easily add up to 5 hours of your precious time being wasted!

The work on what is deemed to be the “longest suspension bridge in the world” started on the Dardanelles strait in March 2017. Over 5000 construction workers were commissioned to erect the 2023 meter long bridge. The towers stand tall at approximately 318 meters high, and the bridge's total 4.6 km length is 4.6 km. Thanks to this mammoth construction, cruising past this bridge between two continents will take you just about six minutes.

That’s not the only record this bridge holds. The bridge also has the longest distance between two towers, in the whole world. It is also the sixth tallest bridge globally.

Built by the South Korean contractors SK Eco plant and DL E&C, in collaboration with Turkish contractors Yapi Merkezi and Limak, it entailed a mind-boggling investment $2.8 billion.
