Anyone who lives in China or uses Chinese social media should know that in recent years, there has been a push to resist Christmas on the mainland internet, and this has been a controversial topic. In real life, many patriotic individuals have actively opposed celebrating Christmas. I once thought I would never witness grand Christmas celebrations again. However, in the winter of 2024, I saw large shopping malls in Chongqing, China, eagerly setting up huge Christmas trees. This enthusiasm from businesses to celebrate Christmas reflects the genuine demand of the general public.

In this video, I did street photography in various shopping malls to capture this scene authentically. The footage was taken at the Jiangbei Central Business District’s Guojin Center in Chongqing, where the staff were just in the process of setting up the Christmas tree 🎄. This was a full month before Christmas. As I know, other malls had already started decorating for Christmas right after Halloween at the beginning of November. This shows that the Chinese people are not as nationalistic as portrayed on the internet.
