Stimulus Discrimination
In classical conditioning, discrimination is a process through which individuals learn to differentiate among similar stimuli and respond appropriately to each one.
For example, eventually Pavlov’s dog learns the difference between the sounds of the 2 bells and no longer salivates at the sound of the non-food bell.
Daily Life Examples of Stimulus Discrimination
Practice
Practice make us aware that which thing is right and which is wrong like Edison who tried many to make a bulb and said I find those methods which are not valid for bulb production.
Cognitive-behavioral Treatment (like PTSD)
Some cognitive-behavioral treatments are designed to train people to interrupt their own stimulus generalization and, instead, to discriminate between different stimuli and contexts.
Playing a Game
By practice we learn which response is valid for particular stimulus and which is not.
