In this clip, I share the story of my very first business — started at 13 with my 11-year-old sister on our family’s produce farm. After working the produce stand after school, we had the idea to start selling flowers alongside the fruits and veggies, so my dad fronted us 300 dollars for pots, soil, and seeds… on one condition: we had to take full responsibility for it. We grew three types of flowers and made 1,100 dollars that first summer.
Over time, the “little flower business” grew into a full greenhouse operation that my parents eventually took over when school got too busy, while I moved into my second venture: a landscaping business that still relied on those flowers. It became a beautiful example of connected, mutually beneficial businesses — and of what can happen when parents not only allow but actively support their kids’ ideas and experiments.
