🌿 JOURNEY TOWARDS THE CROSS: FROM CREATION TO RESURRECTION – 2026
✝️ LENTEN PRAYER – DAY 12 MEDITATION
🔥 The Blood That Brings Deliverance
📖 Exodus 12:1–14
Passover — Salvation Through the Lamb
⸻
🌍 Introduction — The Night That Changed History
After repeated confrontations between Moses and Pharaoh, Egypt remains hardened.
Nine plagues have passed.
Yet Pharaoh refuses to release Israel.
Then comes the final act — the tenth plague.
But before judgment falls, God provides instruction.
Salvation will not come automatically because Israel is chosen.
It will come through obedience and blood.
Exodus 12 marks the birth of Israel as a redeemed people.
This night becomes their calendar reset:
“This month shall be for you the beginning of months.” (Exodus 12:2)
Redemption creates a new beginning.
⸻
1️⃣ The Lamb Without Blemish (Exodus 12:5)
Each family must select:
• a male lamb,
• one year old,
• without defect.
Theological Meaning:
The lamb represents innocence.
Deliverance requires substitution.
The innocent dies so the guilty may live.
This introduces a foundational biblical doctrine:
👉 Salvation requires sacrificial blood.
⸻
2️⃣ The Blood on the Doorposts (Exodus 12:7, 13)
God commands them to apply the blood visibly.
Not admire it.
Not discuss it.
Not believe privately.
But apply it publicly.
“When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”
Notice:
God does not say, “When I see your nationality.”
Not, “When I see your morality.”
He says:
“When I see the blood.”
Salvation is based on covering, not merit.
⸻
3️⃣ Judgment and Mercy Meet
That night, Egypt experiences judgment.
But Israel experiences protection.
The same event produces two outcomes:
• death for some,
• deliverance for others.
The difference was not ethnicity —
it was obedience to God’s provision.
Theologically, Passover reveals:
God is both just and merciful.
Justice does not disappear —
it is satisfied through sacrifice.
⸻
4️⃣ Historical and Covenant Significance
Passover becomes Israel’s central act of remembrance.
Every year they would:
• retell the story,
• eat the meal,
• remember the night of deliverance.
Redemption is never meant to be forgotten.
It becomes identity.
Israel is not defined by slavery anymore,
but by salvation.
⸻
✝️ Christological Fulfillment — From Passover to the Cross
The Passover lamb directly points to Christ.
Passover Lamb Christ
Without blemish Sinless Son of God
Blood protects from death Blood saves from eternal death
Bones not broken Jesus’ bones not broken
Brings physical freedom Brings spiritual freedom
At the Last Supper, Jesus celebrates Passover and transforms its meaning.
He becomes the Lamb.
The Cross becomes the final Passover.
Paul declares:
“Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.” (1 Corinthians 5:7)
⸻
🌿 Lenten Application
Today the question is not:
“Do I belong to a church?”
But:
“Am I under the covering of the Lamb?”
Lent invites examination:
• Are we trusting tradition or transformation?
• Religion or redemption?
• Morality or mercy?
The blood on the doorpost was visible.
Our faith must also be lived openly.
⸻
🔥 Powerful Sermon Lines
• Redemption always costs blood.
• The lamb dies so the family lives.
• Salvation is not inherited — it is applied.
• The door marked by blood becomes a doorway to freedom.
• The Cross is heaven’s final Passover.
⸻
🙏 Prayer Meditation
Lord,
thank You for the Lamb who was given for us.
Teach us to trust not in ourselves but in the blood of Christ.
Cover our homes, our hearts, and our lives with Your mercy.
As You delivered Israel from Egypt, deliver us from sin and fear.
Lead us through this Lenten journey toward the Cross.
Amen.
