Turkey wants to boost the share of power generated by the wind to help solve the problem. The first wind farm in the country went into operation in 2007, on the Gallipoli peninsula.

By the end of last year, Turkish wind farms had the capacity to generate 1.3 gigawatts of electricity; that's enough to power a city with a population of a million.
