Cranes with a perfect surface

When crane systems and hoists from 80 kg to 120 t lifting capacity are built, the surface must also be right. ABUS, one of the major European manufacturers of indoor cranes, has built a completely new plant in Gummersbach and has been working with AGTOS wheel blast machines there since 2019. These were equipped with special functions and adapted to the high requirements regarding ergonomics and safety.
On the wire belt shot blast machine delivered first, flame-cut blanks for the monorail trolleys are processed. The blasting task here is the optimal cleaning of the parts before welding. Rust and scale must be reliably blasted off in order to achieve a high quality weld. After the welding process, the parts are coated with water-based or 2-component paints, depending on the customer's requirements and wishes.

Project Engineer Factory Planning and Organisation Christopher Fritz Dietrich emphasises the compact design of the machine, which was not available from other manufacturers. There were some special features that ABUS attached particular importance to. For example, a safety screen made of Plexiglas had to be installed on the working platform so that a worker standing there would be protected from a crane passing close by. He not only hears the sound of the approaching crane, but also sees it.

Dietrich: "The blasting result exceeded our requirements demanded in the specifications, so that the product range could be expanded."
