South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, is facing one of its worst humanitarian crises in 2025. Unprecedented rainfall has caused massive flooding across Jonglei, Upper Nile, and Unity states, leaving more than 311,000 people affected and over 100,000 displaced. Humanitarian agencies warn that displacement could rise to 400,000 by the end of the year, surpassing last year’s levels.
This video investigates the South Sudan flood crisis of 2025, its impact on vulnerable communities, and the urgent call for international solidarity. Entire regions are submerged, with Unity state reported to be 70% underwater. Families have lost homes, farmlands, and livestock—threatening the survival of over 1.5 million people. The floods have also destroyed schools and health facilities, while contaminated water has triggered a cholera outbreak, affecting nearly 90,000 individuals.
According to Marie-Helene Verney, UNHCR Representative in South Sudan, the situation is dire:
“If flooding continues, up to 400,000 people are likely to be displaced by the end of the year, exceeding 2024 levels.”
The flooding crisis is not only a natural disaster but a human rights emergency. It worsens food insecurity, malnutrition, and protection risks—particularly for women and girls. The right to shelter, healthcare, and safe water is under severe threat.
Despite the escalating needs, funding remains critically short. By mid-2025, only one-third of the nearly $300 million required for humanitarian response had been secured. This shortfall has forced aid agencies to scale back, leaving thousands without adequate shelter, protection, or medical care.
The United Nations and humanitarian partners are urging urgent funding to provide life-saving assistance, while also emphasizing the importance of long-term climate resilience. Projects like the UNOPS Climate Resilience Program, worth $9.9 million, aim to strengthen communities against recurring floods. However, without immediate international support, South Sudan faces a humanitarian collapse.
In this video, we highlight:
The scale and scope of South Sudan’s 2025 floods
How flooding intersects with conflict, food insecurity, and health emergencies
The rising risks of disease outbreaks like cholera
The urgent need for global solidarity and climate resilience strategies
South Sudan’s flood disaster is more than a headline—it is a fight for human rights, survival, and dignity. The world cannot remain silent.
If you believe in freedom, justice, and human rights, share this video to raise awareness. Together, we can demand action, funding, and accountability to protect South Sudan’s most vulnerable.
