When Santa Rosa County resurfaces a road, this is the typical process they follow:
Milling- Process of removing a portion of the asphalt pavement layer to provide a level and smooth surface for a new pavement layer.
Power Broom/sweep – Sweeping removes loose debris from pavement surface to provide a better surface for the new pavement to adhere. Sweeping may need to be done several times throughout the process.
Tack Coat Application – This is an application of a sticky layer which helps the new asphalt adhere to the roadway.
Leveling – Leveling is a process which where depressions and ruts are filled with asphalt materials prior to receiving a new layer of pavement.
Rolling – Rolling is where a leveling course or new layer is compacted using a rubber tired or steel wheel roller.
Paving – Paving is the process of placing a new asphalt layer on a roadway using a paving machine. The paving machine takes the hot asphalt mix spreads across the width of a lane to a smooth uniform thickness.
Rolling - Rolling is where a leveling course or new layer is compacted using a rubber tired or steel wheel roller.
Striping – Painting new striping on the roadway. The first striping is temporary because the roadway needs to cure for 30 days prior to applying the permanent thermoplastic striping.
