Описание: This category was a tough one among the five nominees I chose - Chat Pile, Daffo, Divorce, Erotic Secrets of Pompeii & Folk Bitch Trio. Each released one of the best albums of the year and impressed me with their live shows. I highly recommend listening to all of their music and seeing them live as soon as possible.
Eventually, I had to choose Daffo (AKA Gabi Gamberg). Gabi is a double-winner in 2025, having also won the Best Album award, and I finally got to see Daffo live (twice) in 2025 after spending the last few years enviously viewing fan-shot vids from the USA.
Daffo has been amongst my most featured artists since featuring the infectious 'Wednesday‘. Since then, I think every single release appeared on my Songs You Must Hear playlist. And some of the best songs haven't been the singles released, so listening to the 'Pest' EP and 'Where the Earth Bends' album are both essential listening.
At Daffo's first Manchester show, I watched Gabi spend time with every fan, signing stuff, posing for photos, and generally being lovely. When everybody had been graciously appeased, I went to say hi and told Gabi I was the random small British YouTube channel who awarded them 'Best New Act' back in 2023. Gabi's reaction was "Is it ok if I give you a hug?" which stuck with me for two reasons. Firstly, I don't get a lot of gratitude for what I do (woe is me haha), because a channel like mine isn't generating large numbers. Also, as an older guy, it reminded me of how much more respectful today's young adults are of other people. I've been around enough musicians back in the day to know things haven't always been so respectful. So when I despair at watching and listening to the news with MAGAs and their orange shitstain leader, I remind myself that people like Gabi are the future of America, and the despair recedes.
