Yashica T AF-D with Carl Zeiss T* Tessar 3.5/35 mm

As promissed in my SHORTs-Video - here now the Yashica T AF-D.


This is a 35mm fully automatic point and shoot compact camera made by Kyocera of Japan in 1985.

The Yashica T was the first in a long running Yashica T-series of cameras that all came with a Carl Zeiss Tessar T* lens.

The Carl Zeiss T star or asterix stands for anti-reflective coatings to reduce reflections or increase transparency of the class.
So they were called transparency optics or T-Optics.

The ideal street photography 35mm f/3.5 Carl Zeiss Tessar T* coated 4-elements in 3-groups lens can focus from 1 meter until Infinity.

At the time this camera was made, Kyocera owned the rights to the Contax brand Name which they acquired when they purchased Yashica,
along with the rights to use Zeiss lenses.



The Yashica T AF-D. has a quirky plastic body.

Auto-focus Distance Indicator icons are inside of the viewfinder in LED form.
There is a Scale Focus with 35mm Projected Frame Lines.

Every time you aim your subject a corresponding icon would light up to tell you which distance range the camera has focused on.

The Head icon stands for 1-2 meters.
The Group icon stands for 2-4 meters.
And the Mountain icon stands for 4 meters until infinity.

Programmed Electronic Shutter produces shutter speeds from 1/30 – 1/700 of a second.

A Silicon Photo Diode us used to manage the Exposure Meter for Program and Auto Exposure.

Auto film winding is activated only after you lift your finger from the shutter release button after each shot.
Auto rewind is manually started by a switch at the bottom of the camera, and can be stopped anytime you like.

Flash is OFF by default.
Since you need to slide the flash-switch to the left in order to have the actual flash unti popping sideways out.

The Quartz data back calendar was only good until December 31, 2019.

The ISO is set manually.

The camera requires two regular 1.5V AA batteries.
The data back required one CR2025 3V button battery.

The weak points of this compact camera are the battery compartment lid, the top sliding lid and that plastic body in general.
So it has to be trated gently.
