RRTS is a new, dedicated, high speed, high capacity, comfortable commuter service connecting regional nodes in NCR. The Delhi-SNB Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is a proposed 107-kilometer corridor that will connect Delhi, Gurugram, and the Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (SNB) urban complex in Rajasthan. The project will also help with urban development and land use planning.
Project details
The corridor will have stations every 5 to 10 kilometers.
The project will be built in three phases.
The first phase will run from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to the SNB urban complex.
The second phase will extend the line from SNB to Sotanala, an industrial town in Rajasthan.
The third phase will extend the corridor to Alwar.
Project status
Pre-construction activities for the first phase have been completed.
The project is awaiting final approvals.
Construction is expected to begin after final approvals are received.
The project has been delayed due to lack of consensus on funding and route.
The Haryana Government has blamed Delhi for not releasing funds.
The Supreme Court has criticized the Delhi Government for not releasing its share of funds for rapid rail projects.
National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) – a joint venture company of Govt of India and States of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and U.P, under the administrative control of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, is mandated for implementing the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project across the NCR of India, ensuring a balanced and sustainable urban development through better connectivity and access. RRTS is different from conventional Railway as it will provide reliable, high frequency, point to point regional travel at high speed along dedicated path way. RRTS is different from metro as it caters to passengers looking to travel relatively longer distance with fewer stops and at higher speed.
