Xardos - The desolate tower planet
Xardos is a hostile planet with a bleak, ash-covered surface and a toxic atmosphere. Once fertile, it is now marked by desert-like wasteland and constant storms. The few surviving inhabitants have retreated into gigantic city towers that serve as self-sufficient living spaces. Each tower is a self-contained world in itself - a vertical ecosystem in which everything necessary for life is produced artificially in high-tech laboratories: Food, water, even air. Agriculture, industry and research exist on controlled levels. There is hardly any contact between the towers - isolation is survival. The hope of returning to the open air has long since become a legend.

“The silence below level 27”
The sirens fell silent, and for a moment there was absolute stillness. Only the electrical hum of the life support systems vibrated through the steel walls of Tower Helion-9. Lira, a young technician from the lower maintenance levels, stood motionless, her hands still clenched on the console.
A leak below level 27 - that was the first warning. Down there, where hardly anyone went voluntarily. The old energy cells, which were the heart of the supply system, lay deep in the belly of the tower, guarded by machines older than Lira's parents.
She knew what that meant: if they didn't send someone, the power would go off in two days. And without electricity - no air, no food, no protection from the toxic outside world.
No one volunteered. So she went.
With a mask, a toolbox and a flickering light, Lira entered the forgotten tangle of pipes, cables and shadows. She felt how the silence was different down here - heavy, as if the tower itself was holding its breath.
Then she saw it.
A crack - not a technical defect, but... something alive. A pulsating something that grew out of the wall like a growth. It was breathing. It was watching.
Lira stepped back, the light trembling.
Xardos was desolate, yes. But perhaps not empty.
