And here we have it, the final video from the Wythall Transport Museum, and a behemoth of a vehicle that I have wanted to capture for a very, very long time. The unique Walsall Daimler Fleetline.
Walsall Corporation bought some odd vehicles in their time as well. Purchased along with a similar order of vehicles that went to South Africa. 56 marks being the only 36ft (11m) Fleetline built and the only one built new for UK service with the Cummins V6-200 engine, the vehicle is driven through a 4 speed semi-automatic gearbox. Sporting a total capacity of 86 passengers as well as a distinctive dual door, dual staircase layout. 56 is needless to say a unique vehicle.
The vehicle was new in 1968 to Walsall sporting the blue and white livery before it passed over to West Midlands PTE but a year later. After withdrawal due to reliability issues which plagued all Cummins V6 engined vehicles it passed through to an independant operator in 1978 and has been preserved since 1988 where an extensive restoration was undertaken.
This was operating on the Maypole Island service that all West Midlands vehicles were operating at the event. This video is longer than I had anticipated, but in the end, the end result was worth it.
