Here we have Nicholas from Ultimate Surf & Skate - Auckland, New Zealand - giving the low-down on the Falcon, by Modern Surfboards GSI.
The Falcon is super user-friendly with a nice low rocker, so it paddles really well. The wide front half gives it a bit of a mini-mal vibe, but it pulls into a proper shortboard tail — so it still turns nicely.
There’s a deep double concave and a big vee through the tail, which just makes it really smooth from rail to rail — perfect if you’re getting into turning and want something that feels responsive but still easy to manage.
They come in sizes from 6’0 up to 7’0, starting at around $745 NZD including fins, and honestly it’s one of our top picks for anyone stepping down into their first shortboard. It still feels fast and easy to surf, without being too much board to handle.
If you’ve been on something like the Salt Gypsy Mid Tide, or any other more cruisey mid-length with a large centre fin, and want a board that turns a bit sharper and feels more lively, this is well worth a look.
