Hello everyone,
In this video, I am going to show you a Smart Traffic Light Control System using Arduino and PictoBlox.
This project is designed to reduce noise pollution caused by unnecessary honking at traffic signals.
The system works on a simple but powerful concept:
“More Honking means More Waiting.”
🚦 How this project works:
When the system starts, the traffic lights follow a normal sequence.
The green light stays ON for 8 seconds, allowing vehicles to move.
After that, the yellow light turns ON for 3 seconds as a warning.
Then the red light turns ON for 10 seconds.
During the red signal, a sound sensor connected to pin A0 continuously measures the noise level at the signal.
If the sound level crosses the preset threshold (around 80 dB), the system detects it as honking.
Each time honking is detected, the red light time increases by 5 seconds.
This encourages drivers to avoid unnecessary honking.
An emergency push button is connected to digital pin D2.
If this button is pressed during the red signal, the system immediately activates Emergency Mode.
In emergency mode, the signal turns GREEN for 10 seconds, allowing emergency vehicles like ambulances to pass safely.
After emergency mode ends, the system returns to the normal traffic cycle.
A 16×2 I2C LCD display is used to show:
Current signal status (Green, Yellow, Red, Emergency)
Countdown timer
Number of honks detected during the red signal
