In this video, we’re going to connect two ideas: classic network segmentation and modern zero trust. Traditional segmentation was mainly about putting different groups into different subnets or VLANs, then controlling traffic between them. That helps—but zero trust raises the bar. Zero trust says we should assume breach, minimize implicit trust, and continuously verify access.
Segmentation becomes less about “where are you on the network?” and more about “who or what are you, what do you need right now, and how do we prove it?” We’ll walk through three common segmentation patterns—Layer 3 switching with ACLs, internal firewall segmentation using zones and tiers, and microsegmentation tied to workload identity—and then we’ll finish with how organizations combine all three to support zero trust.
