According to the family, DeCarlo was diagnosed with brain cancer in September 2025 and fought the disease with remarkable courage until the very end.

"He fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end," his family shared in their message.

DeCarlo’s story is one of the most unique journeys in rock music history. Before becoming the lead singer of Boston, he worked as a credit manager at Home Depot in North Carolina and was simply a passionate fan of the band.

After the tragic death of Boston’s original singer Brad Delp in 2007, DeCarlo uploaded cover songs of Boston’s hits online, including “Don't Look Back.”

The band’s founder Tom Scholz discovered his voice and invited him to perform at a tribute concert for Delp.

Soon after, DeCarlo officially joined Boston as their lead singer and helped the band continue performing around the world for more than a decade.
