The process of Heygate Farms Norfolk Peer new potatoes, grown in Swaffham, Norfolk.
First we ridge up the land before destoning the beds to eliminate any bruising on the potatoes.
The potatoes are then planted in three rows, at 5 inch spacings to achieve a consistent tuber size.
Plentiful irrigation is used to maximise growth. 1 inch of water is applied at any one time, usually 5-6 times throughout the Norfolk Peer's lifetime.
The potato canopy is then removed using a topper once the optimum tuber size has been achieved.
Harvesting begins at 6am, to ensure maximum freshness of the crop. The Norfolk Peer are then transported to the packhouse, where they are packed and distributed to Tesco stores and wholesalers across the country.
Filmed and edited by Robert Baker.
