Описание: In the wake of the monumental success of 1938's "The Adventures of Robin Hood", studios were hesitant to attempt to rival such a film - even Warner Bros. pulled out of a sequel. 1946's "The Bandit of Sherwood Forest" found the perfect solution - adapt a book! The first of the 'son of Robin Hood' genre, this film was roughly adapted from Paul Castleton's 1941 novel "Son of Robin Hood".

When the evil regent, the Earl of Pembroke (a horrific villainisation of the one of the most famously heroic figures of medieval England, William Marshal!), plots to make himself the king by killing the boy king Henry III, his mother, Isabella of Angouleme, and her handmaid Catherine seek the help of Robin Hood, who has returned to Sherwood Forest with his band to fight the evil regent. Robin's son Robert joins the fight, leading the Merry Men to restore the discarded Magna Carta and ensure Henry's place on the throne.

The film features probably the most unlikable protagonist in Robin Hood films, which is a shame as he's the lead action hero. The son of Robin Hood, Cornel Wilde's Robert, is an entitled, arrogant brat who sexually harasses the romantic lead, Anita Louise as Lady Catherine. This is more than typical 1940s misogyny - the character is brash to a sickly degree that makes the film quite unpleasant to watch at times.

That being said, it's no more a sword-and-castle Sunday afternoon adventure than something like 1958's "Son of Robin Hood", but this has much more personality and gorgeous colour. Starring Cornel Wilde as Robert, Russell Hicks as Robin Hood, Anita Louise as Lady Catherine, Jill Esmond as Queen Isabella, Henry Daniell as the Earl of Pembroke, and Lloyd Corrigan as the Sheriff of Nottingham.
