A Mommy Makeover is a plastic surgery approach designed to restore you to your pre-pregnancy youthful shape. Pregnancy changes the shape and volume of breasts, deflating them to different degrees. For some women the breasts become smaller than they ever were. That volume loss combined with the stretched out skin creates breasts that we do not recognize as our own.

How is a Mommy Makeover performed?

A makeover for moms involves tightening the loose abdominal wall, smoothening the waistline and contour of your belly with a combination of liposuction and a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), while lifting the breasts and restoring their shape. This may involve a breast implant or augmentation, and can be done safely in the same surgical visit. This is performed in our surgery center which is on-site, which you will see after the consult. General anesthesia makes you comfortable, safe and asleep during the procedure. Then we reshape your breasts by removing the extra skin.

In many cases the breasts after pregnancy deflate to a smaller size than you were before. If you choose to increase the volume with breast implants, Dr. Tannan puts the implants in and drapes your breast over the implant, to give you a natural appearing result. Then we perform the tummy tuck. Picture a bedsheet, full of wrinkles. To straighten this out, you shake it out, lift up the sheet, and pull it tight across all the edges. Similarly during a tummy tuck, Dr. Tannan places the scar in your underwear line, and lifts up your abdominal skin above it. She redrapes the skin over you. She removes the extra skin, and feathers the contour of your waist with liposuction. Dr. Tannan also repairs the diastasis recti (separation of your abdominal muscles) — by tightening your “six-pack.”

Is a Mommy Makeover right for me?

Pregnancy results in permanent changes to your physique, in spite of our best efforts. Some of the issue is fatty deposits in hard to lose areas.
