In a good news for people leaving in Greater Noida West, central government’s final approval on Detailed Project Report (DPR) for most awaited metro corridor – planned between Sector 51 (Noida) and Knowledge Park V (Greater Noida), is likely to be in place shortly, as the NMRC in its 31st board meeting discussed expediting the Centre’s approval of DPR. According to official NMRC, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has approved a budget of Rs 287.62 crore for the financial year 2022-2023 and gave its go-ahead for an internal audit report, with its board also deciding to expedite work on the Greater Noida extension network. Hitherto, works like soil testing, topography and geography have been completed for putting14.5km Greater Noida West Metro corridor project on track, aimed at to take its connectivity deeper into the pockets of Noida and Greater Noida West — earlier known as the Noida Extension. The Noida Metro Rail Corporation had also floated tender for this project twice. But the ministry of housing and urban affairs (MHUA) is yet to give its final approvals for the project.
The Noida Metro is a rapid transit system connecting the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, India. The metro network consists of one line (called Aqua Line), with a total length of 29.7 kilometres (18.5 mi) serving 21 stations. A second line is planned. The system has all elevated stations using standard-gauge tracks. The services are available from 6:00am to 10:00pm from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, trains are available between 8:00am and 10:00pm. The trains make 163 trips a day from Monday to Friday using a fleet of 10 trains and the frequency is 10 minutes during peak hours (8:00am–11:00am and 5:00pm–8:00pm) and 15 minutes during off-peak hours. On Saturday and Sunday the frequency is 10 minutes. Initially, the trains are composed of four cars to be extended up to six in the future. Noida Metro is the 11th Metro system to be built in India and 2nd in Uttar Pradesh after Lucknow Metro. It is the sixth longest operational metro network in India after the Delhi Metro, Hyderabad Metro, Chennai Metro,Namma Metro and Kolkata Metro. At present, the Uttar Pradesh metro rail services are available in the cities of Lucknow, Ghaziabad and also between the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida adjoining Delhi. Similar metro services are in the pipeline for cities like Kanpur, Agra, Meerut, Jhansi, Allahabad as well as Gorakhpur. A new metro rail project is also coming up which will connect Greater Noida with the upcoming international airport in Jewar.Meanwhile, the Agra Metro project, set for completion by the year 2024, will provide connectivity to the famous Taj Mahal and also enable tourists to travel easily to the world-famous heritage sites across the city. The metro project received the approval from the Union Cabinet last year and aims to decongest the city’s traffic and reduce pollution levels.Uttar Pradesh Metro. The other metro projects in the state are also under its ambit now such as Kanpur Metro, Agra Metro, Meerut Metro, Varanasi Metro, Allahabad Metro, Gorakhpur Metro and Jhansi Metro.
