Join us for an inside look at the Pacific Coast Championships, one of the oldest and most respected freediving-only spearfishing competitions on the West Coast! This video covers everything you need to know about the event, rules, schedule, and what makes this championship unique.
🏆 Event Highlights
Open to all freedivers — no scuba, hookah, or powered aids.
Trophies awarded for 1st–5th place individual, 1st place team, and largest fish taken.
The 1st place winner’s name will be added to the historic Al Schnepperschoff Perpetual Trophy.

Competition Date: Saturday, October 18th, 2025
Mandatory Meeting: October 17th at San Simeon Campground
Start Time: 8:30 AM
End Time: 2:30 PM
Check-In: 2:30 PM at the staging area
Final Registration Deadline: October 17th, 2025
🚫 Rules & Restrictions
No scouting allowed starting September 20th from Cayucos Point to Piedras Blancas SMR (limited scouting opens October 11th).
Fish must be taken only while freediving.
No motorized or wind-powered vessels.
No electronic devices such as dive watches with GPS.
Minimum fish length: 14 inches, with specific species exceptions.
Sharks, rays, eels, and mola mola may NOT be taken.
🎯 Scoring System Fish are scored at 1 point per fish + 1 point per pound, based on total aggregate weight.
🤝 Liability & Participation All participants must sign a waiver stating they are in excellent physical condition and participating voluntarily.
