FIRST LOOK - 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing - BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE 2022

Описание: One of 855 300SL gullwing coupes made in 1955, out of a total production run of just 1,400 between 1954 and 1957, this ‪@MercedesBenz‬ was special ordered from the factory with Strawberry Red Metallic paint and initially owned by the Ministry of Police in Havana, Cuba. It was subsequently rallied by professional race car driver Santiago “Chaquito” Gonzales. Built for speed, it uses a lightweight tubular spaceframe under a steel body shell with aluminum hood, doors, trunk lid, rocker panels, firewall and floor pans. Its power comes from its original matching-numbers M198 3.0-liter SOHC inline-6 engine, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, with Bosch mechanical direct fuel injection and dry-sump lubrication. The car was imported to the U.S. in 1961 and in the 1990s received a thorough restoration, including a bare-metal repaint to Fire Engine Red, a new interior and rebuilt engine. A second engine rebuild was performed in 2003; it currently has only 59,265 miles. This fully documented gullwing took first place at the 1957 Havana Gran Prix National Race and first place in record time at the IV Classic Havana Rally and comes with ownership history, race photos and results, and service and restoration notes.
