Under the hood, the M35i boasts a reworked 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, delivering 300 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The power is harnessed through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, steering wheel-mounted shift paddles, and a mechanical limited-slip differential, all finely tuned to M specifications. With a 200mm increase in length, 21mm in width, and 64mm in height, the M35i exhibits a larger body, resulting in improved rear accommodation. The styling evolution maintains the distinctive five-door, coupé-like profile with a sharply angled liftback-style tailgate. Notable exterior features include a uniquely styled front bumper, larger air ducts, illuminated kidney grille, M-specific mirror housings, door sills, and a prominent rear spoiler. The rear bumper showcases a larger diffuser and the signature quad-tailpipe treatment. Inside, the M35i offers a sporty yet luxurious ambiance with heavily bolstered sports seats as standard and optional M Sport seats. Unique touches include an M-specific steering wheel with Alcantara-bound rim, 12 o'clock marker, additional Alcantara dashboard and door trimming, and M-specific digital instruments. The added length contributes to increased rear leg, head, and shoulder room, with 90 liters of additional luggage space under the cargo blind, expanding to 560 liters and 1470 liters with the rear seats folded down. The M35i's performance is enhanced by a retuned suspension, providing lower ground clearance and a lower center of gravity compared to other X2 models. Progressive body movements and moderate levels of lean during hard cornering highlight its dynamic prowess. The Dynamic Stability and Traction Control systems operate up to 10 times faster, contributing to the overall fluidity and responsiveness of the M35i. Braking capabilities receive an upgrade, featuring 385mm steel discs at the front and 335mm steel discs at the rear. The brakes deliver a confidence-inspiring feel to the pedal and robust stopping power.
