Homemade Four Wheel Steering
In this video, I will walk you through the fabrication and working of a Two-Wheel Steering System with an Optional 4-Wheel Steering Mechanism. This design allows users to switch between traditional two-wheel steering and a more advanced four-wheel steering system for enhanced maneuverability.
Key Features:
Two-Wheel Steering (Default): The system operates like a standard two-wheel steering mechanism, controlling only the front wheels through a rack and pinion setup. This setup ensures precision and ease of control for regular driving conditions.
4-Wheel Steering Mode (Optional): The system includes a center shaft with a lock bush and bolt mechanism. Tightening the bolt engages the 4-wheel steering, where the rear wheels are also steered using a set of bevel gears that transfer motion from the front wheels to the rear. Releasing the bolt disengages the rear wheels, returning the system to two-wheel steering mode.
Manual Steering Mode Lock: The lock bush and bolt provide a simple manual control to enable or disable the 4-wheel steering, allowing the user to choose between regular steering for high-speed stability or enhanced steering for low-speed maneuverability.
Rack and Pinion Gear: The rack and pinion gear system ensures accurate steering control for the front wheels, providing reliable and smooth turning.
Bevel Gear Mechanism: The bevel gears transmit motion from the front steering system to the rear wheels, ensuring synchronized turning when 4-wheel steering is engaged.
