In this video, we explore Kwa Maiko, a small but vibrant town located in Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County, just 37.7km from Nairobi CBD. Kwa Maiko borders Ruiru and Githunguri and is known for its fertile lands and rich agricultural activity. Locals grow bananas, maize, beans, and even coffee, alongside cattle keeping.
We visited the town center, which is bustling with activity. Though smaller than its neighbors, Kwa Maiko has a lively roadside market held every Tuesday and Friday, where locals sell fresh produce. The town features old-style Kenyan buildings, small stalls, local eateries, and a few petrol stations. Its infrastructure is decent, with tarmac roads and good security thanks to the presence of a police station.
Kwa Maiko is mainly inhabited by the Kikuyu community and has schools and vocational training centers that support the youth. A river also passes through the town — let us know in the comments if you know its name!
