On a bitterly cold December morning, myself and a fellow fan struggle to stay warm as we await the arrival of the westbound segment of trains LO70s journey. What I always thought as a Boston And Maine architectural trademark, the Maine Central borrows the stone arch design to carry the mainline over Taylor Brook in Auburn. Power today consisted of three GE C40-8Ws; what CSX nomenclature designates as CM40-8s.
A while later, with temps ready the high teens, we again await the eastbound segment of LO70s trip. This time we are at the once lucrative and thriving Deering Junction. With one CM40-8 isolated, only adding its dead weight to the battle, the other two struggle and paw their way up the almost 1.5% grade out of the basin of Portland, ME.
