DAY 1: Exercise on Common Errors 1
Basic sentence structure of English
Subject and Predicate as also the compound subject and the compound predicate
How to identify the subject in a sentence
Also: SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT
In all tenses except past simple, past perfect and past perfect continuous the form of verb varies with the number and person of its subject. For example; a 3rd person singular subject takes a singular verb and other subjects take plural verb.
1. I/ you/ they eat breakfast, but he/ she/ Mohan eats breakfast.
Even if we learn this well the learners, including the native speakers, find it difficult to apply the appropriate form of verb in a sentence because:
1.At times there are more than one (compound) subjects in a sentence joined with different kinds of connectors like and, or, as well as, with, together with, along with, as also.
2.Sometimes it is difficult to identify the subject because it is not located just before the verb.
3.At other times, the subject seems to be plural but is really a singular subject and vice versa.
Today we shall discuss these issue one by one.
I am not sure how much time it will take to complete the topic, but I do hope that a viewer who stays till the last he will not need no other lessons on this topic. Serious learners! Please have your pen/ pencil and a note book with you because I intend to give some practice exercises in between the session to enable you have desirable command of this topic. At intervals I shall take up your queries at telephone number: 0129-4291674. I may also be contacted through my email: [email protected].
Rest to be decided later........
