Stores specializing in a wide variety of bread are becoming something of a sensation in Korea these days. There are more unique varieties of bread than ever. Let's take a look.

A watermelon appears at a bakery. With the red flesh and black seeds, this bread really does like the fruit.
[Soundbite] Kim Seon-jae(Customer) : "I thought the bread just resembled a watermelon but it also taskes like it."
It's not only the appearance. Watermelon juice has been added to the flour dough. The seeds are chocolate and for the green peel, green tea extract and chlorella have been used. The black stripes on the outside come from squid ink while the white skin on the inside is made from milk batter. This watermelon bread made with all natural ingredients is also said to be delicious.
[Soundbite] Hwang Chan-im(Customer) : "The watermelon bread itself is sweet and sour. Even without jam and butter, it's really good."
At this bakery, customers find adorable cube shaped bread.
[Soundbite] Cha Gyeo-wul(Runs Bakery making Cube-shaped Bread) : "We made the bread in smaller, portable size. I wanted to make a dessert type of bread that's not sweet and can be enjoyed by all ages."
First add salt, sugar and milk, instead of water, to the flour. Vegetable oil also replaces butter. There are 8 different kinds of bread as their different shades indicate the ingredient such as cream cheese, blueberry, chocolate and so on.
[Soundbite] Kim Min-ji(Customer) : "The outside is crisp and the inside fluffy. It's moist and delicious."
At this store, red is the theme. Yes, red bread. The ingredient for producing the color is rather unique. It is red rice called Hongguk rice made by fermenting aspergillus. Hongguk rice flour and a starter made with the same rice and which helps digestion, are added to the basic bread mix. Another special powder is added.
